| Question : | For how many days should I follow Punchkarama? |

| Answer : | This depends whether you are healthy or having certain disease. For maintenance of health Ayurveda advises that according to your constitution, you should select type of the procedure and then carry the same once every year. If you have certain disease, your physician will advise you how long you should continue the Punchkarama. E.g. For preventing recurrence of attacks of bronchial asthma, usually it is advisable to carry out medicated enema at least for 3 successive years. |

| Answer : | Punchkarama is useful in all ages. In young age medicated purgation and blood letting is advised, as these procedures are for removing vitiated Pitta, which is prominent in young age. |
| Question : | Is it necessary to follow all the procedures of Punchkarama? |

| Answer : | No, You must understand the basic concept of these procedures. The preliminary procedures (Poorvakarma) are aimed at bringing aggravated doshas from the compact tissues and organs to the hollow organs and gastro-intestinal-tract from where it is easy to remove them. Main procedure is responsible for removing these vitiated doshas from the nearest site and the Post procedures are important for giving proper rest to the digestive tract and they also allow increasing the digestive fire slowly, so that it becomes normal once again. |
| Question : | Is it painful to follow Punchkarama? |

| Answer : | There is no pain in any of the Punchkarama procedures. However there can be some discomfort in all the procedures described above. However if the preliminary procedures (Poorvakarma) are done in correct method and the dose of the medicines of purificatory procedures is selected properly, then this discomfort can be reduced to a minimum. |
