During the digestion the waste products extracted are known as malas. They are Sweda (sweat), Mutra (Urine), Purisha (Stool). Ayurveda is a medical science that strongly believes in the presence of Atma (the soul) and mana(the mind). When dosha, dhatu, mala along with the mind are in the state of equilibrium then and then only the individual can be refereed as a healthy person. Ayurveda has described daily regimen for a healthy person according to the changes in nature. This includes eye salves, smoking and eating habits for one's personal hygiene.

This Rhutucharya(seasonal regimen), and Dinacharya(daily regimen) is the unique feature of ayurveda. A life-style if followed properly then helps to achieve the physical and mental health.

Agni, In the study of Ayurveda 'agni ' is a major concept on which the health of an individual is primarily dependent. (This agni is a bit different from agni mahabhuta). Agni is nothing but a digestive capacity of an individual. Physiologically digestion takes place at 13 different levels and hence there are 13 varities of agni. Jatharagni is the main digestive capacity which functions at grahani. The other 12 agnies are dependent on the strength and quality of this agni.

All the 'panchamahabhutas' have their own agni which digest food and a part of it is converted to that perticular mahabhuta and similarly the seven dhatus have their own agni which by digestion convert 'aahar rasa' to their respective dhatu. If we consider the pathology of a disease, the causative factors first vitiate is the agni and by which the whole system gets disturbed, hence the strength of agni should be maintained. The science also explains the condition and the strength of the agni. This strength varies from person to person, time to time and season to season. This strength primarily depend upon the weather, atmosphere and mental status.
